Linda Masarira's party joins NERA

Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) has joined the National Electoral Reforms Agenda (NERA) platform.

NERA is platform where about 20 opposition political parties have joined hands to speak with one voice on common issues.

The issues include electoral reform, elections monitoring and observation preparedness, election management mechanisms and protection of the vote.

Linda Masarira confirmed the development through a statement to the media.

“We have signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between stakeholders on the National Electoral Reforms Agenda in Zimbabwe (NERA).

“NERA commits to establishing a platform for purposes of strengthening policy, political analysis, and policy dialogue development as well as lobbying and advocacy with regard to the electoral reform agenda in Zimbabwe. As LEAD we have entered this mutual relationship with other political parties.

“Cognizant of the centrality of a functional electoral system in the socio-economic, political, and cultural transformation of Zimbabwe, the MOU that we have signed today will exist to deal with issues of Electoral reform, elections monitoring and observation preparedness, election management mechanisms and protection of the vote,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, LEAD shall be chairing  Nera’s legal affairs portfolio, while Douglas Mwonzora’s MDC will head the communications.

Other political parties in NERA include FORUS Party, ZIPP, NPC, PDP, and Zapu among others.
